Water projects to be key part of coming budget’s development programme, says Nasir

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Monday chaired a meeting of the provincial local government department, which was attended by the local government secretary, special secretary, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) director general, Malir Development Authority director general, Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) chief operating officer, Mega Projects director and other officers.

The meeting reviewed the Annual Development Programme for the next fiscal year 2026-27, progress in ongoing schemes and framework for new development projects. The local government secretary briefed the meeting on the proposed development schemes and planning priorities for the coming fiscal year. The meeting reviewed development schemes related to the Malir Development Authority, Lyari Development Authority, Sehwan Development Authority, KWSC and mega projects. Discussions were also held on projects aimed at improving urban infrastructure, roads, drainage systems, provision of safe drinking water and enhancement of civic amenities.

Special consideration was given to rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge projects to address future water scarcity challenges and ensure effective conservation of rainwater resources.

Shah directed that comprehensive and effective planning be undertaken for the launch of development schemes across the province with priority given to projects that directly benefitted the public.

He emphasised the need for focusing on infrastructure development, provision of civic facilities and sustainable development initiatives, and directed the institutions concerned to improve their performance to ensure timely completion of the ongoing projects.

The local government minister also directed that mega projects and key schemes of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, KDA, Malir Development Authority and Sehwan Development Authority, along with other important projects, be included in the upcoming budget.

He said projects related to the provision of safe drinking water and efficient utilisation of water resources would form an important part of the development programme and the government would utilise all available resources to provide basic facilities to the people. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to ensure transparent, effective and timely completion of development projects across Sindh to provide better civic amenities to the public.
