A fault in K-Electric’s main power cable has disrupted the electricity supply to the Hub Pumping Station, affecting the delivery of approximately 85 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to Karachi.
According to officials, the power supply to the pumping station was suddenly suspended due to the fault, resulting in a significant shortfall in the city’s daily water supply. Immediately after the incident, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) contacted K-Electric, which dispatched a technical team to the site to assess the situation.
During the initial inspection, a statement issued by the KWSC said, K-Electric officials confirmed that the disruption was caused by a fault in the main cable supplying electricity to the Hub Pumping Station.
The KWSC said it was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with K-Electric to ensure the earliest possible restoration of normal water supply to the city. Later, in a statement, the KE spokesperson said the power supply to the Hub Pumping Station has been ensured through alternative sources.
The Power supply to the Hub Pumping Station was affected due to a cable fault; however, the issue has been resolved, the spokesperson said. K-Electric’s technical teams remain in coordination with representatives of the water board to ensure continued support and operational stability, the spokesperson added.
