LAHORE:Around 3,000 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are registered with Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Department, according to official sources.

Deputy Director NGOs, Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal, Aqsa Rafiq Chaudhry, said that around 3,000 NGOs are currently fully functional across the province. She said that the registration of NGOs is carried out through a fair and transparent process.

Responding to a question, she explained if an FIR is registered against any member of an NGO, the department raises observation during the registration process. However, once the FIR is cleared, the NGO becomes eligible for registration.

She added that the registration process is completed promptly after receiving a verification report from the Home Department. “As soon as the verification is received, registration can be processed without delay,” she added. According to her, the department extends full support and cooperation to NGOs throughout the registration process. She emphasised that organisations applying for registration should include terms such as ‘welfare’ or ‘development’ in their names, in line with departmental guidelines. She also noted that once all necessary clearances are obtained, the department issues an online NOC, completing the formal registration procedure.
