A man and his wife were critically injured on Sunday in a sharp-weapon attack inside their house in the Orangi Town area, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred near the Rehmania Mosque in Orangi Town Sector 11.5 within the jurisdiction of the Iqbal Market police station. The injured couple were identified as 50-year-old Murshid, son of Jalal Khan, and his wife Feroza. Both were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police said a painter who had been hired to carry out work at the house arrived in the morning and repeatedly knocked on the door, but received no response. Upon looking inside through the entrance, he noticed the woman lying injured and immediately informed local residents and her son, Shakeel, who subsequently alerted the police.
Investigators revealed that the injured woman owned three properties in the area. Her first husband died five years ago, after which she married Murshid. According to preliminary intelligence gathered by police, Murshid was reportedly her third husband.
Residents of the neighbourhood told police that a man identified as Adil had allegedly threatened the couple in connection with a property dispute. Police said initial investigations suggested that the attack may be linked to a property-related conflict. However, officials added that the exact motive behind the crime would become clearer after recording statements of the injured couple.
