DADU: In a major step towards strengthening emergency health care services in Sindh, the Sindh health department’s central emergency medical services institution has inaugurated a new operational base in Dadu and launched a Rescue 1122 ambulance service at the Shaheed Makhdoom Bilawal Health Unit.

The ceremony also marked the foundation stone laying of a state-of-the-art trauma centre that would enhance healthcare facilities in the district. The newly launched ambulance service will provide timely emergency medical assistance and patient transportation to the residents of Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Dadu, Johi, Kachho, and several surrounding towns and villages, particularly benefitting people living in remote and underserved areas.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sindh Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Deputy Secretary General and MNA Sardar Rafiq Ahmed Jamali, and the Chief Executive Officer of Emergency Services, Brigadier (retd) Tariq Qadir Lakhiar.

Addressing the gathering, Jamali described the establishment of the emergency services operational base and launch of the 1122 ambulance service as historic milestones for Dadu district. He said that under the ‘Health for All’ vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, numerous health care and welfare initiatives were being implemented across the district to ensure better medical facilities for the people.

He added that the project would provide modern emergency health care services at the doorstep of people living in mountainous, riverine and remote regions, while also creating employment opportunities for local youths.

Jamali also announced that an air ambulance service would soon be launched from the Dadu operational base to facilitate the rapid transfer of critically ill and injured patients to major healthcare centres.

Speaking on the occasion, Lakhiar said the primary objective of Rescue 1122 was to provide immediate medical assistance during accidents, cardiac emergencies, maternity complications and other critical situations to save human lives.

He informed the audience that a modern trauma centre was being constructed in Dadu on 13 acres of land for billions of rupees where world-class health care facilities would be available. He also highlighted the remarkable growth of the institution, noting that the emergency services began in 2021 with only 41 ambulances, while today a fleet of 627 modern ambulances was serving people across Sindh around the clock.

Local community leaders and residents welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of Jamali and the Sindh government in expanding quality health care services across Dadu district.
