MALAKWAL: Thousands of residents in Nain Ranjha are facing a severe electricity crisis due to overloaded transformers and an outdated power distribution system.
The affected residents, including Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Aslam, and others told journalists that the village’s electricity infrastructure has not been upgraded for years despite a continuous increase in population and electricity consumers. They said only three transformers are installed in the village with a combined capacity of around 474 meters, while the current load has exceeded 905 meters. A 50 kVA transformer is reportedly serving over 155 meters, a 100 kVA transformer more than 300 meters, and a 200 kVA transformer over 450 meters, resulting in severe overloading. Residents said the overloaded system has led to frequent breakdowns, low voltage, overheating wires, sparking, and short-circuit incidents, creating a constant risk of major accidents.
