WANA: Two houses were destroyed after heavy rains and strong winds battered the Hazar area of the Kaniguram tehsil in Upper South Waziristan, causing damage to property; however, no loss of life was reported, officials said.
According to Upper South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Ismatullah Wazir, the houses belonging to Kaleemullah and Farooq were damaged when powerful winds tore off their iron-sheet roofs and flung them far from the structures.
The walls of both houses collapsed, leaving the families without shelter. As a result, the affected families have been forced to live in the open. District administration officials said household belongings were also destroyed in the incident.
No casualties or injuries were reported. Local elders said members of the Barki tribe in Kaniguram had initiated relief and rehabilitation efforts on a self-help basis to assist the affected families. However, Rescue 1122 and other relevant agencies had yet to reach the site.
The deputy commissioner said relief teams had been dispatched to the affected area and that the administration would provide all possible assistance to the victims after assessing the extent of the damage.
