PESHAWAR: At least two people were killed and 31 others, including seven women and eight children, sustained injuries in rain and wind-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Wednesday.
According to a damage assessment report issued by the PDMA, the casualties occurred when walls and roofs of houses collapsed due to strong winds and heavy rain that lashed different parts of the province.
The incidents were reported from Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Bannu districts.A PDMA spokesperson said that the authority, district administrations, and all relevant departments had been put on alert and were maintaining close coordination to deal with any emergency. The PDMA has directed the district administrations of the affected areas to ensure the prompt provision of relief and assistance to the affected families. The spokesperson said intermittent rain and strong winds were expected to continue across the province until June 5. The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Centre remains fully operational, and citizens have been advised to report any untoward incident or seek information by contacting the authority’s helpline at 1700.
