LAHORE : Punjab achieved a milestone during its Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness drive as the Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore (SPAL) teams collected more than 376,000 tonnes of animal waste and solid refuse during Chand Raat and the three days of Eid, surpassing its own record set last year.
For the first time, authorities also employed surveillance technology, including cameras operated by Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and drones monitoring, to identify locations requiring immediate waste removal and to enhance operational efficiency. The province-wide operation exceeded the 2025 record of 357,000 tonnes of sacrificial waste, remains and garbage collected during Eid-ul-Azha.
Sanitation teams removed approximately 55,000 tonnes of waste on Chand Raat, 126,188 tonnes on the first day of Eid, 113,233 tonnes on the second day and 82,163 tonnes on the third day.
Authorities said door-to-door collection of animal remains and waste was carried out across the province, with all collected material transported to designated collection points before being safely disposed of at approved dumping sites.
The residents expressed satisfaction over the cleanliness arrangements, particularly the timely removal of sacrificial waste from residential areas. Citizens also appreciated the efforts of CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz for ensuring prompt sanitation services during the Eid holidays.
The cleanliness operation remained under continuous supervision, with commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners monitoring field activities across the province. Control rooms established at provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels remained operational round the clock to oversee the campaign. Officials described the Eid sanitation campaign as one of the largest and most closely monitored cleanliness operations undertaken in Punjab’s history.
Meanwhile, following the establishment of Suthra Punjab Authority, Lahore has witnessed remarkable improvements in cleanliness standards. In Tehsil Raiwind, a successful Zero Waste Eid campaign was carried out with enhanced sanitation measures, awareness camps at cattle markets, new uniforms for workers, shopping bags, and various environmental initiatives. The arrangements at cattle markets were also well-managed and widely appreciated.
