It is a fact that one’s medical expenses tend to rise considerably as they get older, particularly once they reach the 60 years mark. The consultation fee structure in most private hospitals and clinics today appears to be beyond the reach of ordinary people, including retirees with no post-retirement medical benefits. While the medical profession is generally considered to be a noble one as it alleviates human sufferings and preserves life, in this day and age, it has become more of a commercial enterprise.

The patient is just another customer and healthcare is any other product. Under these circumstances, the prioritisation of revenue can overshadow the core values of empathy and care.
