LAHORE : Amiruddin Medical College and PGMI Principal Prof Dr Farooq Afzal has said that wide-ranging administrative, academic and clinical reforms introduced during the last one year have significantly improved the performance of Postgraduate Medical Institute, Amir-ud-Din Medical College and Lahore General Hospital.
Addressing a joint meeting of senior professors and administrative doctors on completion of his first year in office, Prof Farooq said teamwork, discipline and transparency played a key role in achieving institutional progress. He added that service to patients remained the top priority of all healthcare professionals.
He said strict meritocracy, biometric attendance, monitoring and a zero-tolerance policy against recommendation culture had improved the working environment and institutional discipline. He added that modern medical equipment was installed, clinical departments upgraded and availability of medicines and diagnostic facilities ensured, while OPD timings were also extended.
Prof Farooq said academic activities were strengthened through faculty development programmes, grand clinical lectures, workshops and professional training for nursing and allied health staff. Historic lecture theatres were renovated and named after renowned Muslim scientists Ibn-e-Sina, Al-Razi and Al-Zahrawi.
He said Pakistan’s first Pediatric Stroke Centre had been established at LGH in line with the Punjab government’s health vision.
