A tribute to The News’ distinguished writers
Dr Noman Sattar
Dr Noman Sattar is one of the oldest contributor to The News. Dr Sattar has a Master’s degree in International Relations, from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and MPhil in American Studies. This was followed by Masters and Doctorate degrees in Government and International Studies from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, as a Fulbright fellow.
Dr Sattar has served at the Area Study Center, for American Studies, for more than thirty years, as a researcher, and teacher, as well as Editor of Pakistan Journal of American Studies. Before his retirement, he was serving as Acting Director. He has also served at Faculty of Contemporary Studies, NDU, Islamabad, and at PAF Air War College, Karachi.
He was the focal person for the QAU-BSU (Ball State University) Partnership, under the US State Department Universities Partnership Program (2012-15). He was the recipient of HEC Best Teacher Award in 2012. He is an alum of Salzburg Global Seminar.
Currently, he is a visiting faculty at Quaid-i-Azam University, and gives talks at different universities. He is also serving as Editor, CISS, AJK, Muzaffarabad.
Dr Moonis Ahmar
Dr Moonis Ahmar is another distinguisheds writer who has been contributing to The News since many years. He is Meritorious Professor of International Relations and former Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Karachi. He has more than 35 years of academic experience in different universities and policy oriented think tanks of Pakistan and abroad. He is also a senior columnist in different newspapers and magazines.
Dr Noor Fatima
Dr. Noor Fatima is serving as Professor at the International Islamic University Islamabad, where she also heads the university’s SDG Task Group. She holds a PhD from Quaid-i-Azam University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. A DAAD alumna, she earned her Master’s in Public Management from the University of Potsdam. She received the Martin Luther King Award (2018) from the Government of the United States for her work in peacebuilding and interfaith harmony, and was invited to the White House in 2015 for a global interfaith dialogue. A recipient of fellowships and research grants from the U.S. State Department and DAAD, she continues to bridge academia and public policy through her scholarship and public engagement. Since 2005, Dr Fatima has been a regular contributor to The News International.
Prof Dr Rizwan Zeb
Prof Dr Rizwan Zeb is Visiting Research Fellow at the BNU Center for Policy Research at the Beaconhouse National University Lahore, Pakistan. He is member of the Working group on International Measures for Compliance to Nuclear Disarmament Regimes at the Uppsala University’s Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament and of Emerging Technologies &AI Research Center (ETAI), Khazar University. He is Associate Editor, Journal of Asian Security and International Affairs (Sage). He is a former Benjamin Meaker Professor, Institute of Advanced Studies, and Charles Wallace visiting Research Fellow, Governance Research Center, at the University of Bristol, UK. Earlier, he was Visiting Scholar, South Asia Project, Foreign Policy Program, Brookings Institution, Washington DC, USA. He has a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Western Australia. He is the alumnus of Regional Center for Strategic Studies (RCSS) Summer workshop on Defense, Technology and Cooperative Security in South Asia and a graduate of the College of Security Studies, Daniel K. Inouye Asia – Pacific Center for Security Studies, Honolulu, Hawaii. His area of academic interest includes South Asian Strategic Stability issues with particular focus on Pakistan’s Security, the interface of emerging technologies and national security and Artificial intelligence and strategic stability issues.
Dr Farah Deeba
Farah Deeba is an Assistant professor at the Department of History, University of Karachi. She holds a PhD. in oriental studies from the University of Ca Foscari, Venice, Italy. Her research interests are in Islamic modernism, religious studies, and ancient civilizations.
Kazma Orangzeb
Kazma is a Ph.D. scholar in European Studies at the University of Karachi. She holds an M.Phil. in European Studies and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Karachi. Her research interests include global political economy, European integration, sustainable development, democracy, media, and international cooperation. She has served in several academic and professional roles, including Lecturer in International Relations at Jinnah University for Women, visiting Lecturer at the University of Karachi, and Proposal Reviewer for the 32nd International Conference of Europeanists in Dublin, Ireland.
Kazma has published her researches in HEC-recognised journals and has been a regular contributor to The News International.
Syeda Beena Abbas
Beena Abbas is currently doing M.Phil.from the Department of History, University of Karachi, with her research on Indian Secularism. She secured 1st position in Masters and is a Gold Medalist from the History Department. Her Masters’ thesis was on the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD)1981. She has been regularly contributing her researched articles in The News International since 2018.
Dawood Mirza
Dawood Mirza is an Assistant Lecturer at Aljamea tus Saifiyah, a premier institution of the Dawoodi Bohras in Karachi. He holds a Master’s degree in Arabic literature from the same institution, completed his MPhil in History at the University of Karachi, and is currently pursuing his PhD there.

Kishwer Baqar
Kishwer Baqar is a researcher, facultya member, in the History department of Karachi University. His writings include topics like history, religious conflict, and global politics. He holds a Master’s degree in Religion and Global Futures from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and an MA in History from the University of Karachi.
Kashif Iqbal
Kashif Iqbal is a PhD scholar in the Department of History at University of Karachi. His area of specialisation is the political history of South Asia with special focus on regional political history of Sindh.
Hafiz Muhammad Khurram Ayub
Hafiz Muhammad Khurram Ayub is a dedicated academic currently serving as a History Lecturer at SIMS, SIUT. With M.A. degrees in both General History and English Literature from the University of Karachi, he is presently pursuing an M.Phil. in History.
His teaching portfolio spans faculty roles at Iqra University, PAF KIET, and Indus University, where he teaches World History, International Relations, and English. Khurram is also a published researcher with interests in the social sciences.
