The Pakistan Rangers on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five alleged members of the notorious “Mullan Gang” during an intelligence-based operation conducted in Surjani Town.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the arrested suspects were identified as Salman alias Mullan, said to be the gang leader, Muhammad Umar, Syed Ali, Zohaib and Daniyal.

The suspects were allegedly involved in multiple incidents of robbery, street crime, motorcycle theft and mobile phone snatching in various parts of Karachi, including Azizabad, Liaquatabad, Lalukhet, Nazimabad and Surjani Town. The Rangers said that one .30-bore pistol, one unlicensed 9mm pistol, two magazines along with ammunition, six mobile phones, two snatched motorcycles and cash were recovered from the suspects’ possession.

During initial interrogation, the alleged gang leader, Salman alias Mullan, reportedly confessed that he and his accomplices had carried out an armed house robbery in which mobile phones and other valuables worth approximately Rs130 million were looted.

The spokesperson further stated that the arrested suspects were habitual offenders and had previously been booked in multiple FIRs registered at different police stations across Karachi. The accused had also reportedly been arrested and jailed in the past. Authorities said raids were underway to arrest other members and facilitators of the gang.

The arrested suspects, along with the recovered weapons, ammunition and stolen items, had been handed over to police for further legal action.

The Rangers appealed to citizens to report criminal activities through the nearest Rangers checkpost, Rangers helpline 1101, or WhatsApp number, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
