A delegation of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) led by Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan called on Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi at the Governor’s House.

The meeting focused on the crucial role of private universities in advancing modern education and ensuring quality learning opportunities for the youth.

Hashmi voiced his concern over commercialisation of education, stating, “Some institutions have turned education into a business, which is very unfortunate.” He advocated for a perspective that viewed education as a service sector, emphasising the importance of prioritising student learning and development over profit motives.

The governor also highlighted the urgent need for equipping the young people with modern technology, research capabilities and essential skills. He recognised the significant potential of private universities in enhancing the country’s educational framework, asserting that educated youth were the guarantee of Pakistan’s bright and stable future. The SSUET chancellor responded by highlighting the varsity’s commitment to providing modern and high-quality education at affordable fees.

The vice chancellor, Prof Dr Afzal Haque, echoed these sentiments, emphasising the university’s prominent and exemplary role in providing contemporary education to the youth of Sindh.

The registrar, Commodore (retd) Syed Sarfraz Ali, said that university continued to strive for innovation and quality in its educational offerings.
