In a major success against narcotics trafficking, the Shah Latif police carried out a secret intelligence-based operation and dismantled an alleged drug supply and distribution network operating in the city.
During the raid, the police arrested five suspects, including two women, and recovered more than 25 kilograms of high-quality hashish valued at over Rs5 million. According to police officials, the operation was conducted near the poultry farm bridge along the Malir River after authorities received confidential information regarding suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a police team launched the raid and apprehended the suspects before the narcotics could allegedly be distributed across different areas of Karachi. The arrested suspects were identified as Shakir Naveed, Abdul Manan and Naveed Khaliq, while the two women taken into custody were identified as Fazila, wife of Shakir Naveed, and Nahid, wife of Naveed Khaliq.
The police said the suspects were close relatives, and the men and women arrested were married couples allegedly involved in the same network. During the operation, the police recovered approximately 25.2 kilograms of premium-quality hashish, along with several mobile phones believed to had been used for communication and coordination within the alleged network.
Officials stated that the estimated street value of the seized narcotics exceeds Rs5 million. Initial investigations revealed that the recovered hashish was allegedly intended for supply and sale in Karachi’s posh localities, where demand for high-quality narcotics was reportedly higher.
During interrogation, suspects allegedly disclosed that women were to be used in the supply and sale process in an attempt to avoid suspicion and law enforcement scrutiny. Police officials termed the operation a major breakthrough, saying the timely action prevented a large quantity of drugs from reaching the market and disrupted the activities of an organised narcotics network.
A case had been registered against all arrested suspects under relevant legal provisions, while further investigations were underway to trace additional facilitators and uncover the wider network allegedly linked to drug trafficking operations in the city.
