Action will be taken against those who dump offal of sacrificial animals on roads and streets, and those who tear off offal during Eidul Azha. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Saturday.

The meeting decided making coordinated arrangements for collecting and disposing of offal and for cleanliness.

They also decided preventing offal dumping on roads and in other open spaces, and taking legal action against those who do so.

All deputy commissioners (DCs) will form vigilance committees at the sub-divisional level in their respective districts, headed by assistant commissioners (ACs). The vigilance committees will monitor, prevent offal dumping on roads and bring those involved to book.

Naqvi said the district administration, town municipal administrations (TMAs) and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) would make coordinated efforts to ensure cleanliness during offal removal and dumping.

DCs will play lead roles to help guide and assist the municipal agencies to perform their work so that they make the city’s offal collection, disposal and cleanliness system effective.

The meeting decided that the committees headed by ACs would include a representative of the TMA, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation or the cantonment board, and the SSWMB.

They also decided that the vigilance committees would ensure that offal is lifted on time, and prevent it from being dumped and torn off on roads. Section 144 will be imposed, and the committees can register FIRs against those who dump or tear off offal on roads.

The meeting decided setting up a desk at the Commissioner’s Office for the immediate redressal of complaints regarding offal collection by helping coordination and cooperation between departments. People can lodge complaints on Rescue 1299 for and the departments concerned to take necessary action.

DCs have been told to send reports on offal collection in their respective districts to the Commissioner’s Office on all three days of the Eidul Azha festival.
