Land dispute: One killed, two kidnapped as rivals clash in Hangu

HANGU: One person was killed, and two others were allegedly kidnapped as two rival tribes clashed over a land dispute in Hangu district, police officials said on Thursday.

The officials said the members of the Palosin Wazir and Dar Samand tribes exchanged fire over a longstanding land dispute in the Doaba area. During the clash, they said, one member of the Dar Samand tribe was killed, while reports emerged that two persons had been kidnapped.

District Police Officer Tariq Habib said that a heavy police contingent rushed to the area immediately after receiving information about the incident and brought the situation under control. He said a ceasefire had been enforced between the rival groups, while a search operation was underway for the safe recovery of the kidnapped persons.

Police officials said all necessary measures were being taken to maintain law and order in the area, and negotiations with both parties were continuing.Meanwhile, residents of Dar Samand blocked the main highway for all kinds of traffic in protest. However, the road was reopened after successful negotiations by SDPO Amjad Hussain with the demonstrators.
