LAHORE:The Punjab government has revised traffic fines for motorcyclists, private motorists and commercial vehicle owners across Lahore, while also extending electronic ticketing to commercial transport vehicles through the updated One App system.

According to Lahore Traffic Police, the revised fines came into effect, with officials saying the move is aimed at encouraging compliance with traffic laws rather than imposing a financial burden on citizens. Under the new schedule, motorcyclists using mobile phones while driving, violating lane discipline, obstructing traffic flow, using pressure horns and committing other traffic violations will now face a fine of Rs1,000. However, fines for riding without a helmet, driving against one-way traffic and operating a motorcycle without a licence will remain unchanged at Rs2,000. For car drivers, motorists operating vehicles with engine capacities up to 2,000cc will be fined Rs2,000 for lane violations, while jumping a traffic signal will attract a penalty of Rs3,000. Commercial vehicle operators driving without a valid licence or violating traffic signals will face fines of Rs5,000, officials said. The revised penalties also target smoky vehicles. Motorcycles and rickshaws emitting excessive smoke will incur a fine of Rs2,000, while private cars will face penalties of Rs3,000. Commercial vehicles found causing environmental pollution through smoke emissions will be fined Rs5,000. Traffic authorities said the One App system had also been updated to enable electronic challan tickets for commercial vehicles from Thursday onwards.
