ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) informed the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Tuesday it had recovered Rs14.485 trillion between June 2023 and March 2026.
This achievement also includes retrieval of 4.96 million acres of state and forest land valued at Rs14 trillion. NAB also compensated 129,272 victims of housing and financial fraud by disbursing Rs223.94 billion to affected individuals. Regarding anti-money laundering efforts, the Bureau confirmed 39 high-profile cases involving assets worth Rs127 billion are currently under process, while assets worth Rs85.4 billion have already been frozen.
The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works, headed by Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood, paid a visit to NAB headquarters to review its performance, particularly in housing sector. Chairman NAB, Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed delivered a comprehensive briefing outlining Bureau’s evolving operational methods and recent achievements in combating white-collar crime. The committee was informed about major structural reforms introduced to improve Bureau’s credibility and efficiency.
During the interactive session, Chairman NAB Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed responded to committee members’ questions regarding irregularities in both public and private housing projects. He informed the committee reforms are being introduced in housing sector that will help revive industry and significantly reduce opportunities for corruption.
