HYDERABAD: By-elections for 13 vacant seats of various local councils in nine districts of Sindh will be held on May 17, 2026, and all arrangements for the polling process have been finalized.
The by-elections will take place in different councils of Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Sujawal, Sukkur, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Mirpurkhas, and Jacobabad districts. The polling will be conducted for five seats of Member District Council, two seats of chairman, two seats of vice chairman, and four seats of general ward member.
To ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, authorities have appointed nine district returning officers, 12 returning officers, nine district monitoring officers, and 12 monitoring officers.
According to election officials, the total number of registered voters in these councils is 98,808, including 53,832 male voters and 44,976 female voters. A total of 73 polling stations have been established, comprising 14 male polling stations, 14 female polling stations, and 45 combined polling stations. Under the security arrangements, 59 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive, 11 sensitive, and three normal.
Meanwhile, candidates in all seats of Kashmore, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Badin, and Thatta have already been elected unopposed; therefore, polling will not be held in those districts.
