ISLAMABAD: The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and head of Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), Mehmood Khan Achakzai, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday underlined the need for Parliament to play an effective role in resolving public issues.

The two sides shared unanimity on this point and other matters during a meeting between Achakzai and Fazlur Rehman at the Parliament House. According to TTAP spokesman Akhunzada Hussain, who was also present on the occasion, the meeting emphasised that Parliament should play an effective role in resolving public issues and ensuring democratic stability.

“The two leaders also agreed on the need to make contacts and consultations between opposition parties more effective in the current political situation,” he maintained. Achakzai called on Maulana Fazl, and the two held detailed discussions regarding the overall political situation of the country, parliamentary affairs and the current National Assembly session.

During the meeting, the two leaders consulted on various issues related to the ongoing political tension in the country, parliamentary affairs and mutual cooperation between opposition parties.

The opposition alliance’s spokesman said that the proceedings of the current session of the National Assembly, the government’s approach and the joint strategy of the opposition were also discussed. Though the JUIF is not part of the opposition alliance, it shares unanimity of views on many issues.
