QUETTA: The tortured body of an Airports Security Force (ASF) deputy director, who had been kidnapped a month ago from Balochistan’s Kalat district, was recovered on Wednesday, police said.
According to police officials, the deceased was identified as 58-year-old Muhammad Waseem, a resident of Karachi.
He was abducted on May 20 this year along with a companion by unidentified armed men from Muhammad Tawa, nearly 40 kilometres from Kalat, while travelling from Quetta to Karachi.
Following the incident, a case was registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, and a search operation was launched by police, CTD, Frontier Corps (FC), and other law enforcement agencies for the recovery of the abducted officer and his companion. However, the operation remained unsuccessful.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kalat, Zahid Hussain, confirmed the incident and said Muhammad Waseem’s body was found at a deserted location around two kilometres east of the Quetta-Karachi National Highway.
Police said the body bore visible signs of torture.
The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kalat for medico-legal formalities and was later dispatched to Karachi.
