ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary party meeting of the opposition parties in the National Assembly Monday expressed grave concern over recent hike in oil prices and said this would further compound financial problems of the masses.

The meeting was held here at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Leader of the Opposition Mehmood Khan Achakzai, and it was attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chief Whip Malik Amir Dogar and members of the National Assembly of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The huddle discussed the overall political situation of the country, parliamentary affairs, the current National Assembly session and various aspects of the joint strategy of the opposition parties.

The meeting expressed serious concern over the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products and rising inflation in the country. The participants noted that the new wave of inflation will create more problems for the already struggling people, especially the poor class. The meeting criticised the government’s economic policies and demanded immediate relief for the people.

They also discussed in detail the wheat crisis, the difficulties being faced by farmers and the overall situation of the agricultural sector. The participants took the position that farmers are facing severe difficulties and the government’s poor policies have damaged the agricultural economy. The meeting deliberated on the health of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder chairman Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi, their hospital transfer, ongoing cases and release issues.

The meeting also expressed that the opposition does not expect any relief from the courts. At the end of the meeting, special prayers were offered for the martyrs of Bannu and Maulana Muhammad Idrees of JUIF and other martyrs.
