Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the resignations of Board of Secondary Education Karachi Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho and Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Hyderabad Chairman Shuja Ahmed Mehsar.

The chief minister has also approved a proposal to advertise the posts for appointment of regular chairmen to the two educational boards. It had earlier been speculated that the remaining candidates from the panels approved last year by the chairman search committee headed by Dr Tariq Rafi would be appointed on the basis of marks obtained during the selection process, as had been done in the past for appointments to the eight educational boards of Sindh.

Under that formula, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Memon was considered the next strongest candidate after securing 53.2 marks. Other candidates included Abid Ali Mughal with 52 marks, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah with 51.25 marks, Qazi Arif Ali with 51.51 marks, Javed Ali Memon with 50.67 marks and Ali Gohar Changeer Ahmed, who also secured 50.67 marks.

In June last year, Fakir Muhammad Lakho had been appointed chairman of the Karachi Intermediate Board after securing 55.9 marks, while Dr Shuja Ahmed was appointed chairman of the Hyderabad board with 55.8 marks. Retired Colonel Syed Muhammad Alamdaar Raza had been appointed chairman of the Mirpurkhas Board after obtaining 55.4 marks.
