DSP faces inquiry over ‘unnecessary call’ to lady cop

LAHORE:The Punjab Elite Police initiated a regular departmental inquiry against DSP Azhar Iqbal over an alleged unnecessary call made to a subordinate lady constable.

Speaking to The News, the DSP said he had done nothing wrong, stating that as a DSP he was authorised to call subordinates to join duty. He added that following the call, the lady constable submitted an application against him. He maintained that the call was made in a professional manner and said he would prove his position.

According to an official memorandum available with The News, the inquiry relates to actions taken by Azhar Iqbal during his posting as DSP Operations, DIC-3, Rajanpur. He is currently serving as an OSD.

A notification issued from the Elite Police Force Headquarters, Lahore, states that SP Headquarters Aisha Butt has been appointed as the inquiry officer.The document directs officials and personnel associated with the PSCA and Rahim Yar Khan to appear on May 12 (Tuesday) at 10am at the Elite Police Headquarters on Bedian Road, Lahore, for the finalisation of inquiry proceedings.The memorandum directs that the matter be treated on a priority basis.
