Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said the Sindh government is unwilling to transfer powers and resources to local government institutions in a total violation of Article 140-A of the Constitution.

Addressing participants during a visit to a membership campaign camp at Johar Morr in Gulistan-e-Johar, he said the PPP has remained imposed on Sindh for the past 18 years and continues to control Karachi’s institutions, resources and authority.

The JI chief alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party carries a feudal and landlord-style mindset and has become a modern face of feudalism as it has no real connection with democracy or public opinion.

He claimed that the Jamaat-e-Islami’s nine town chairmen and local representatives are serving citizens day and night by utilizing limited town resources and rapidly completing development projects for public welfare.

He said JI has emerged as the true voice of the people not only in Karachi but across the country. He stated that the party’s “Badal Do Nizam” movement seeks to free the country from the alliance of feudal lords, bureaucrats, and the elite class.

Rehman announced that under the ongoing membership drive, the party aims to recruit five million new members nationwide and urged the public to become part of the JI’s struggle.

He criticized the ruling elite for being indifferent to public hardships, saying they are responsible for inflation, fuel price hikes, and economic difficulties while refusing to reduce their own luxuries.

He said the PPP was misleading the federal government by presenting false claims of development in Karachi, while the city’s residents continue to suffer from poor civic conditions despite generating 98 percent of Sindh’s revenue.

JI opposition leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Saifuddin Advocate said the party’s campaigns are aimed at guiding people toward justice and public welfare. He highlighted welfare initiatives such as Bano Qabil and Aghosh, adding that the “Haq Do Karachi” movement is a struggle for securing citizens’ rights and solving civic problems.

He said the ruling class is sitting over public resources while citizens remain deprived of water, electricity, gas, transport, and other basic facilities. The event was attended by a large number of citizens, including women and students, many of whom filled out membership forms and pledged to join the movement.
