Islamabad : The Islamabad Traffic Police released an extensive traffic management and diversion plan on Saturday in preparation for the "Marka-e-Haq" event scheduled for May 10 (today).
The advisory outlines significant temporary road closures and designated alternate routes across the federal capital to ensure public order and smooth transit during the proceedings.
According to the official notification, traffic diversions will be strictly enforced from 6:00 pm until midnight on several of the city's primary arteries. A major portion of the Srinagar Highway will be completely inaccessible to motorists in both directions between Korangwala Chowk and Peshawar Mor. Furthermore, the Islamabad Expressway will be closed for all traffic heading toward Faisal Avenue from the Faizabad interchange to Khayaban Chowk.
To facilitate travel during these closures, authorities have redirected commuters arriving from the Motorway or Islamabad Chowk toward Bhara Kahu and Murree. These motorists are instructed to utilize 9th Avenue and Colonel Sher Khan Road, formerly known as IJP Road, by way of Murree Road. Conversely, those traveling from Murree or Bhara Kahu toward the Motorway must follow the reverse route via Murree Road, Faizabad, Colonel Sher Khan Road, and 9th Avenue.
For residents and visitors heading toward the Red Zone and adjacent sectors from the Motorway, the police recommend exiting at Peshawar Mor to 9th Avenue and proceeding through either Jinnah Avenue or Margalla Road. Those departing the Red Zone for Rawalpindi or the Motorway are expected to use these same corridors in reverse. Similarly, traffic originating from the Expressway toward Islamabad’s inner sectors is being diverted at Faizabad toward Colonel Sher Khan Road and 9th Avenue, while commuters from Rawalpindi are encouraged to use Faqir Aipi Road or 9th Avenue as viable alternatives.
The advisory further specifies that travelers from Rawalpindi Scheme III or Ammar Chowk should navigate via Rawal Road, Chandni Chowk, Murree Road, and Club Road to reach the Red Zone or northern points like Bhara Kahu. For those moving between Murree and the southern reaches of the city, such as Koral Chowk or Rawat T-Cross, the designated route includes Korang Road through Bani Gala, Park Road, and Lehtrar Road. Motorists traveling from Peshawar Mor toward Rawat T-Cross are advised to transit through 9th Avenue, Stadium Double Road, and Rawal Road.
In an effort to manage high-volume areas, the police confirmed that all Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs) will be diverted toward Rawalpindi from Rawat T-Cross starting at 5:00 pm. More stringent measures apply to Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs), which are strictly prohibited from entering the federal capital from 4:00 am until midnight on Sunday. Islamabad Traffic Police have appealed for public cooperation and urged citizens to plan their journeys according to the diversion map to minimize inconvenience.
