The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police has claimed arrest of a suspect involved in the murder of a citizen during a robbery.
According to the SIU, the weapon allegedly used in the crime was also retrieved from the suspect’s possession. The SIU conducted the operation within the jurisdiction of the Pirabad police station and arrested the suspect identified as Javed Channa, son of Khadim Hussain.
According to SIU SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro, three armed suspects on March 8 shot dead 26-year-old Mian Bakhshi, son of Hayat, near the Northern Bypass in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area after he resisted a robbery attempt.
The suspects fled after snatching the victim’s mobile phone and Rs20,000 in cash. An FIR No 132/26 under the sections 394, 397, 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered at the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station, The investigation was later handed over to the SIU.
Using technical assistance and human intelligence, the SIU team traced and arrested the suspect in the Pirabad area. Police also recovered the 9mm pistol allegedly used in the crime.
During initial interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to committing the robbery and murder along with his accomplices. Police said raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining suspects. The suspect’s previous criminal record is being checked.
