ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday once again summoned the superintendent of Adiala jail to appear personally before the court in a case regarding Bushra Bibi’s medical condition and family meetings, warning that failure to appear would result in issuance of his arrest warrants.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the petition filed by Mubashra Khawar, daughter of Bushra Bibi, seeking access for a personal physician and family meetings.The court directed the superintendent to hear the petitioner in person on Monday and present himself before the court. Despite previous court orders, the superintendent of Adiala jail did not appear before the court.
Advocate General Islamabad Naveed Hayat Malik appeared before the bench for the first time after assuming charge. The advocate general requested the court to grant one day’s time, stating there was no emergency in the case.
“There is urgency,” responded Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the petitioner. “Even family meetings are not being allowed.” The advocate general argued that Bushra Bibi is a convicted prisoner and must be treated according to jail manual rules. He submitted that a decision had already been made on the petitioner’s representation. The advocate general stated that all meetings were taking place according to the jail manual.
The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday.Meanwhile, Bushra Bibi, wife of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been shifted back to Adiala jail on Wednesday after undergoing a medical examination at the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi, sources said on Wednesday.
They said that the former first lady was moved to the hospital under tight security arrangements for a scheduled follow-up examination of her eye, previously operated on April 17 at the same facility.
