KARAK: An All Parties Conference (APC) of local political leaders, social figures and representatives of various organisations on Monday called for joint action against corruption and malpractices in the government departments.
Held under the auspices of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) at the Town Hall here, the event was attended and addressed by the Awami National Party district president Shah Nawaz, provincial joint secretary Hamid Toofan, Gul Sahib Khan, Pakistan People’s Party district president Khurshid Khattak, former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel, former Member National Assembly Shah Abdul Aziz, JUIF leader Malik Imad Azam and Khattak Ittehad president Mudassir Ayub.
Shah Nawaz termed the corruption as a major issue in the district and said that corruption had reached an alarming level and the people were increasingly frustrated. He stressed the need for unity and practical steps to tackle the menace.
PPP’s Khurshid Khattak alleged that several departments, including the police, were involved in corruption, adding that there was little accountability.Former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel claimed that both elected representatives and the administration were complicit in corrupt practices. He said he had remained an MPA thrice, but even the deputy commissioner did not respond to his calls.
Hamid Toofan termed corruption the biggest issue not only in Karak but across the province, vowing to continue the struggle against malpractices. Former MNA Shah Abdul Aziz also criticised elected representatives, urging the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers to raise their voices against corruption in line with the party’s stated stance.
JUIF leader Malik Imad Azam announced that a joint committee comprising representatives of all parties would be formed to address corruption. He also called for audits of all development schemes.
