DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gomal University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal was on Tuesday sent on a 90-day forced leave in the light of the recommendations of the inquiry committee constituted by the Higher Education Department.
According to a notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department, the decision was taken by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi under the provisions of the Gomal University Act, 2012, and was based on the recommendations of an inquiry committee.
The chief minister is the chancellor of the Gomal University by virtue of his office. The provincial government also constituted a three-member committee to investigate the affairs of the university.
The committee will be headed by the commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan. Its members will include the vice chancellor of the University of Peshawar and registrar of the University of Science and Technology, Bannu. The notification stated that the committee was tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation into several issues, including the Law College firing incident, a hostel dispute, alleged non-merit-based recruitments, and financial and administrative matters within the university. Meanwhile, Grade-19 officer Imran Ullah Khan was appointed as registrar of the university.
