BARA: Eleven displaced women, men, and persons with disabilities from the Tirah Valley were provided financial assistance and essential equipment to help restore their livelihoods and revive their small businesses.
A ceremony was hosted at the Gender Desk Office in Bara tehsil of Khyber district, established with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The beneficiaries received assistance aimed at helping them restart income-generating activities.
The beneficiaries had previously been engaged in various trades and businesses in the Tirah Valley but lost their sources of income after being displaced from the area, leaving many families facing serious economic hardship.
Speaking on the occasion, Noor Education Trust Chairperson Rukhshanda Naz said that financial support and business-related tools had been provided to 11 women and men, including persons with disabilities, to enable them to resume their livelihoods and meet the needs of their families.
“Displaced residents of Tirah, particularly women and persons with disabilities, continue to face numerous social and economic challenges and require sustained support and guidance,” said Rukhshanda Naz, a well-known human rights activist.
She maintained that the assistance was provided on a self-help basis to promote economic independence and self-reliance among vulnerable families.Head of Da Khwendo Kor Organization Maryam Bibi urged women to take an active role in improving their lives by participating in economic activities.
She said that financially empowered women were better positioned to protect their rights and contribute to the welfare of their families and communities.UNDP representative Ejaz Khan praised the initiative, saying that strengthening the economic position of women and other vulnerable groups could help address many of the challenges they face.
He noted that the primary objective of the Gender Desk in Bara was to promote women’s economic empowerment, legal awareness, and social inclusion, enabling them to play a more active role in society. At the conclusion of the ceremony, financial assistance and business equipment were distributed among the beneficiaries.
Participants described the initiative as an important step towards the rehabilitation, self-sufficiency, and economic recovery of displaced families from the Tirah Valley.
