Pak-mediated talks process remains firm: Iran

ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam on Sunday criticised the US for “unpredictable and aggressive behaviour” towards peace in the Middle East, saying the talks between Tehran and Washington would continue if the latter changed its behavior.

Ambassador Moghadam appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue, adding the mediation process remained firm.

The envoy told Iran’s official news agency IRNA here that his country had presented a comprehensive plan aimed at ending the US-Israeli aggression, and clarified its positions openly.

He insisted that progress hinged on the US’s sincerity and willingness to resolve issues through “genuine” diplomatic efforts.

The ambassador said the Islamic republic was committed to safeguarding its national interests and defending its rights.

He confirmed that Iran had shared its latest proposal with Pakistan, the main mediator in the ongoing talks, which was later conveyed to the US.

Ambassador Moghadam appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue and said the mediation process remained firm. He criticised the US behaviour, describing it as “unpredictable and aggressive” unlike Iran’s “transparent diplomatic stance”.

The envoy also said that Pakistan intended to boost trade with the Caucasus and Central Asian countries for which the Iranian route served as an ideal option. He said the two countries’ border crossings played a vital role in enhancing bilateral trade and transit in that respect.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke on Sunday with Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi.

DPM/FM Safadi conveyed Jordan s deep appreciation of Pakistan s constructive role and continued efforts for peace, dialogue and regional stability in the context of ongoing tensions in the region.

DPM Dar reaffirmed Pakistan s commitment to promoting constructive engagement among all parties to support stability and peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

The two leaders also reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Jordan, and underscored the importance of continued cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums. They agreed to remain in close contact.
