The Sindh Rangers have arrested an alleged gang leader involved in multiple robbery and street crime incidents during an intelligence-based operation in Shah Faisal Colony.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspect identified as Nauman Ahmed, alias Papa, son of Zahoor Ahmed, is the alleged ringleader of the Papa gang. Two snatched phones and a motorbike were also recovered from his possession.

The spokesperson said the suspect, along with his accomplices, had been involved in numerous robberies, street crimes, firing incidents, police encounters, and snatching of motorbikes and phones in areas including Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir and their adjoining localities, as well as in parts of Punjab.

The suspect is believed to have been involved in approximately 200 to 250 robbery incidents, snatching 40 to 50 motorbikes, 300 to 400 phones and Rs5 million to Rs6 million in cash.

During the initial questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted to having been injured in a police encounter in Bhains Colony, and previously escaping from another encounter in Shah Faisal Colony.

Rangers officials said the suspect is a habitual offender, and had been arrested earlier in Punjab in connection with robbery cases. Multiple FIRs of various nature have been registered against him in Karachi and Punjab.

Two of his accomplices have already been arrested by Rangers and sent to jail, while efforts are under way to apprehend other members of the gang. The arrested “gang leader” has been handed over to police, along with the recovered items, for further legal proceedings.
