Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has described the under-construction Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as “not merely a development scheme but the lifeline of Karachi’s future,” underscoring its significance for the city’s long-term urban mobility.
Speaking about the ongoing work in a statement issued to the media on Saturday, he assured the citizens that noticeable improvement in traffic conditions and commuting ease would be felt within two to three months following the resumption of construction activities.
He added that efforts were under way to restore and reopen under-construction sections of the road along the Red Line corridor in Karachi in phases, enabling smoother traffic flow and minimising disruption to daily commuters.
Acknowledging the hardships faced by the public, Memon noted that large-scale infrastructure projects inevitably caused temporary inconvenience. However, he stressed that the government was fully aware of these challenges and was taking steps to mitigate their impact.
To further ease congestion, clear directives had been issued to all relevant authorities to improve traffic management across affected areas, he said.
Highlighting the government’s approach, the transport minister stated that the Sindh government had prioritised public interest by conducting a comprehensive review of all aspects of the project before making effective and informed decisions.
The Red Line BRT, he reiterated, was a flagship public welfare initiative of the Sindh government in Karachi aimed at providing citizens with modern, environmentally friendly, and high-quality transport facilities, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban development in Karachi.
