In a clear signal of urgency over Karachi’s worsening traffic and infrastructure woes, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah conducted an early morning visit on Thursday to inspect ongoing development work along University Road, one of the city’s busiest and most critical arteries.

Accompanied by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the CM undertook a detailed review of the under-construction Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and other associated construction activities.

During the visit, the CM was briefed by officials of the Frontier Works Organisation on the pace of work, quality standards and revised timelines for completion. He emphasised the need for expediting construction while ensuring that quality was not compromised, directing all relevant departments to work in close coordination to minimise inconvenience to the public. attended by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, along with the Water & Sewerage Corporation managing director and other senior officials, reflecting a concerted administrative effort to address delays and streamline execution of the project.

Expressing concern over the condition of major road networks, the CM reiterated that the rehabilitation of Karachi’s key thoroughfares remained a top priority for the Sindh government. He stressed that the city’s infrastructure was being upgraded in line with modern urban requirements to support its growing population and economic activity.

Motorists, students and transporters using University Road have long been grappling with severe traffic congestion, damaged road surfaces, and extended travel times. The CM’s early morning inspection underscored the government’s intent to accelerate progress and restore normalcy on this vital corridor.

The urgency surrounding the project came in the wake of prolonged delays in completing the BRT’s Lot-2 segment stretching from Mausamiat to the Numaish intersection, which has left large portions of University Road in a deteriorated state.
