Two suspects were killed and as many arrested in an injured state during various alleged police encounters across the city on Thursday.

In one of the incidents, the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) Baldia Division conducted an operation in the jurisdiction of the Ittehad Town police station near the Karbala Ground, Madina Colony. Police signalled a suspected white Mehran car (AJE-216) to stop but the occupants opened fire.

As the police returned fire, a suspect, identified as Ghulam Murtaza, son of Ashraf, was injured. He was taken into custody along with a 30-bore pistol and the vehicle, which was reportedly stolen from within the Aziz Bhatti police station’s limits. Three accomplices of the arrested suspect, however, managed to escape. The injured suspect later succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, police said, adding that he was a habitual car lifter with at least 10 prior arrests.

During another encounter near Habib Patti Main Road in Gulbahar, police arrested two suspects in an injured state while their third accomplice fled. One of the injured suspects, identified as Awais, son of Jamal, died during treatment at a hospital, whereas the other suspect, Asghar, son of Aziz, was under medical care.

Police claimed to have seized weapons, mobile phones and a motorcycle from their possession. Officials said no prior criminal record of the deceased suspect had so far been confirmed. In another exchange of fire in Shah Latif Town, police injured and arrested a suspect identified as Kamran Ali, son of Shamsuddin, while his accomplices escaped. A pistol with ammunition, motorcycle, mobile phone and cash were seized from the scene.
