A high-level delegation of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), led by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, visited the WASA Lahore Head Office, where Provincial Minister for Housing Bilal Yaseen, Chairman Punjab WASA Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan, Vice Chairman WASA Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmed, and Managing Director WASA Ghufran Ahmed warmly received the delegation.
The delegation included Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan, Chief Commercial Officer Haris Sarfraz, Chief Strategy Officer Sadiq Younus, and Chief Financial Officer Ammar Khan.
Officials said that the purpose of the visit was to promote cooperation and exchange of experiences between the water and sewerage institutions of Karachi and Lahore to improve civic services.
Mayor Wahab stated that modern governance, effective use of technology, and institutional coordination are essential to address water supply and sewerage challenges faced by major cities. He added that Karachi can further improve its water supply and drainage systems by learning from Lahore’s successful models and experiences.
Officials of WASA Lahore will provide a detailed briefing to the delegation on water supply, sewerage systems, revenue collection, and the use of modern technology. The delegation will also be taken on visits to various field operations. Additionally, they will be briefed on the drainage system, disposal stations, and preparations for the monsoon season to further strengthen practical cooperation between the two institutions.
Barrister Wahab further stated that in a large city like Karachi, modern reforms are essential to ensure equitable water distribution, reduce line losses, and resolve long-standing sewerage issues. He emphasized that benefiting from the successful experiences of other major cities is of great importance. He reaffirmed the commitment to transforming the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation into a modern, self-sustaining, and public-friendly institution.
He added that in light of the insights and recommendations gained during the visit, a practical strategy will be developed to further improve water supply, drainage, and the revenue system in Karachi. Measures will also be taken to enhance institutional capacity, promote modern technology, and ensure transparency, so that better and quality services can be provided to citizens.
