PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Tuesday took strong notice of the police firing during an overnight protest against a drone strike in the Akakhel area of the Bara tehsil of Khyber district.
According to an official handout, the chief minister directed authorities to conduct an immediate and transparent inquiry into the firing during the protest and instructed that strict legal action be taken against those found responsible.
Meanwhile, the chief minister convened a jirga of tribal public representatives. The meeting was scheduled to be held at night at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, with tribal parliamentarians expected to attend.
According to the chief minister, the jirga will deliberate on the drone strike, the prevailing law and order situation, and broader security concerns. He emphasized that the establishment of lasting peace is essential, stating that any form of unrest is unacceptable. “We cannot afford further instability,” he said.
