A search committee constituted for the appointment of vice chancellors in Sindh has finalised a panel of three candidates on merit for the post of vice chancellor at Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women.

The meeting, chaired by Dr Tariq Rafi, who heads the Sindh Higher Education Commission, shortlisted 16 candidates for interviews. Among them was the daughter of a former chief minister of Sindh. Out of the shortlisted candidates, 14 appeared for interviews, while one candidate remained absent and another was interviewed online.

Following the evaluation process, the committee ranked Dr Akbar Sial first, Dr Saleh Khaskheli second, and Dr Usman Chachar third. The three shortlisted names will now be forwarded through the home department for intelligence clearance by Inter-Services Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau. Upon receiving the required clearances, the chief minister of Sindh will appoint one of the candidates as vice chancellor. The tenure of the current vice chancellor, Dr Gulshan Memon, expired last year. However, no extension was granted, and he has been continuing in the role until further orders.
