Sindh Information Commission (SIC) and Punjab Information Commission (PIC) representatives met at the PIC’s office to discuss collaboration for better implementation of RTI laws in Sindh and Punjab.
Officials said on Tuesday both sides reiterated the importance of effective implementation of Transparency and Right to Information Acts as a cornerstone for ensuring citizens’ smooth access to information, besides strengthening institutional transparency and accountability.
The meeting was attended by Sindh information commissioners, and on behalf of the Punjab Information Commission its chairman and members were present on the occasion. The discussion focused on enhancing public awareness, building the capacity of public bodies, and streamlining mechanisms for timely and proactive disclosure of information. It was emphasized that transparent governance is essential for restoring public confidence and improving service delivery.
They shared their experiences with regard to access of information and transparency. They reiterated mutual resolve to jointly promote and work for proactive disclosure practices, support training initiatives for government officials, and facilitate citizens in exercising their right to access information.
This collaboration will ensure reinforcing democratic values and responsiveness of public institutions. Both sides also discussed ways to improve their respective RTI laws for further ensuring access to information and transparency. The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to continue consultations for awareness campaigns, technical support, required amendments in existing laws and policy advocacy aimed at fostering a culture of openness and integrity across public sector entities.
