LAHORE:The Punjab government has launched a community development project for low-income families under which the govt has planned to build over 1,600 houses on easy installments during the year.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin here on Tuesday.
Project Director of the Punjab Affordable Housing Programme (PAHP) M Abdullah provided a detailed briefing on the projects. Under the PAHP, the proposed plan for Faisalabad and Khanewal has been prepared in the initial phase.
Bilal Yasin stated that the residential units will be built on over 215 kanals of government land in two districts. This comprehensive community development project will include schools, mosques, essential amenities, and basic infrastructure. The minister clarified that the Punjab govt will also provide subsidies for the provision of these constructed units to deserving families.
Directive to improve planning for clean water programme
The Punjab Housing Department has initiated significant measures to further enhance and accelerate the Chief Minister Punjab Clean Water Programme. In this regard, Secretary Housing Punjab Noor-ul-Amin Mengal issued important directives aimed at strengthening the planning, monitoring, and field operations of the project. According to the Housing Department, Mazhar Khan has been assigned the additional charge of DG Projects, Punjab Saaf Pani Authority. He will continue performing his duties as Chief Engineer LDA-II alongside this responsibility. Secretary Housing directed that the planning and execution of the Clean Water Programme should be further improved in line with modern requirements to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to citizens.
He also directed the preparation of a comprehensive plan for the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority Complex and a modern water testing laboratory to improve continuous monitoring and quality assessment of water. Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal stated that a proper and effective plan for field operations and maintenance should be formulated, while immediate resolution of public complaints must also be ensured to strengthen public confidence.
