Residents of Railway Colony staged a protest on Monday against prolonged power outages, causing a major traffic jam near Shaheen Complex.

A large number of residents, including women and children, gathered at Shaheen Complex Chowk to protest the suspension of electricity supply in their area. The demonstration led to severe traffic congestion, with long queues of vehicles reported in and around the protest site.

Traffic flow on key arteries, including I Chundrigar Road and Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, was significantly disrupted, causing inconvenience to commuters. Protesters said electricity supply had remained suspended for the past week despite the intense heat, severely affecting their daily lives. They added that repeated complaints to the relevant authorities had gone unanswered.

Later, following successful negotiations with police, the protesters dispersed, and traffic flow in the affected areas was restored.

A K-Electric spokesperson said the power supply to defaulters in City Railway Colony was disconnected due to non-payment, but it has been restored. The electricity supply was restored after assurances from area elders of timely payments. The KE spokesperson said timely payments are a key factor in reducing or eliminating load-shedding in an area.
