KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has restored water supply to most parts of the city after completing critical technical work at the Dhabeji Pumping Station ahead of schedule.
Officials said that acting on the directives of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the corporation completed the task scheduled for 48 hours in just 33 hours. As a result, water supply had been restored to approximately 95 per cent of the city.
A spokesperson for the KWSC said water supply from the K-II pumping house at Dhabeji had been successfully resumed, with three pumps made operational. The activation of these pumps had enabled an additional supply of 100 million gallons per day (MGD), bringing the total supply to 600 MGD.
The city’s total demand stood at around 650 MGD, leaving a shortfall of 50 MGD, he stated, adding that the restoration of water supply in different areas of Karachi was being carried out in phases.
Supply had been fully restored in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme 33 and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, while water distribution from Nipa, Safoora and Sakhi Hasan hydrants had also resumed.
However, partial shortages may persist in tail-end areas of Saddar, Chanesar, Landhi and Korangi, while water supply in the rest of the city continued as normal. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, KWSC CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and COO Engineer Asadullah Khan appreciated the staff for completing the work ahead of schedule. They reiterated that the corporation remained committed to improving civic services.
