LAHORE : The University of Health Sciences (UHS) and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), London, on Saturday discussed a broad collaboration framework covering international accreditation of MD and MS programmes, establishment of an MRCP examination site at UHS, engagement of UK examiners for quality assurance, and joint work in specialist training and curriculum development.
The proposals were reviewed in a meeting between UHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nadia Naseem and RCP President Prof Mumtaz Patel, a distinguished clinician and medical educator.
UHS shared details of its centrally governed examination system, structured curriculum and logbook-based training model, stating these align with international standards.
Both sides identified areas of cooperation, including accreditation or endorsement pathways for UHS postgraduate programmes, involvement of RCP examiners in assessment and audit, and the potential designation of UHS as an MRCP examination centre. Collaboration in curriculum development and specialty training, particularly in nephrology, and academic linkages with UK experts were also discussed.
The meeting also reviewed opportunities to strengthen MS/MD programmes and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Level III and IV specialisation pathways.
Prof Patel appreciated UHS’s academic framework and expressed willingness to explore the proposals further, suggesting preparation of a formal roadmap and wider engagement with other UK Royal Colleges.
