LAHORE : Punjab Secretary for Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian has directed that a comprehensive advance plan be prepared for the Eidul Azha cleanliness operation.

He expressed the resolve that this year’s Eidul Azha cleanliness drive would be implemented successfully under a comprehensive strategy. Punjab Secretary for Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian issued this direction while chairing a meeting at the Suthra Punjab Authority of Lahore (SPAL) office on Saturday.

The meeting was convened to review sanitation arrangements across the province, with managing directors of all district waste management companies joining via video link. SPAL DG Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din was also present. The meeting reviewed in detail the weekly performance of district-level managing directors.

Secretary for local government said that the Suthra Punjab monitoring system had been activated at the district level and further upgraded across the province. “Efforts were underway to ensure real-time visibility of field operations through a digital monitoring system”. He added that under a comprehensive beats plan, workers’ attendance and movement would also be monitored systematically.

He instructed all managing directors to carry out surprise visits in their respective districts and closely monitor the performance of field monitoring officers. He warned that fake reporting or negligence in contractor monitoring would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those responsible.

The secretary said the transfer of assets at the tehsil level would further improve daily operations, noting that better service delivery was increasing public confidence. He further said that resources were being continuously enhanced to meet public expectations, while awareness campaigns were also being run alongside operational improvements.

He added that a special cartoon series had been launched by the SPAL to raise awareness among children about cleanliness and environmental hygiene. He further added that a modern sanitation infrastructure had been established in the province, which was playing a key role in making Punjab cleaner.

Meanwhile, Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore (SPAL) is continuing its zero-waste drive in line with the vision of CM Punjab, with large-scale sanitation operations underway in Nishtar Town.

Over 1,500 sanitation workers, 283 operational vehicles and 313 loader rickshaws have been deployed to ensure effective waste management across the town. The teams are actively engaged in door-to-door waste collection, mechanical sweeping, washing, and clearance of waste containers, particularly in rural union councils of Lahore.

Under the special zero-waste drive, sanitation staff have been stationed across all areas of the suburban town to maintain cleanliness standards. 22 identified hotspots, including Haloki, Chandrai, Kahna Nau, Gajjumatta and Bedian Road have been completely cleared. Heavy machinery has also been utilised for waste removal in key areas such as Ashiana Road, Awan Market, Kacha Jail Road, Chung and Amarsidhu.

Meanwhile, container clearance and manual sweeping operations have been completed in Township, Green Town and Bagrian. Efforts are underway to gradually transform all towns into zero-waste zones under the Suthra Punjab initiative.

Citizens have been urged to cooperate with sanitation staff and play their role in maintaining cleanliness. Residents can lodge complaints related to sanitation services by contacting the Suthra Punjab helpline at 1139 or through social media platforms.
