LAHORE : A comprehensive and large-scale plan has been devised, on the directions of the CM Punjab, for the cleaning of drains and sewer channels across the province.
In this regard, Secretary Housing Punjab Noor ul Amin Mengal has assigned a special task to Punjab Wasa.
According to the spokesperson of the Housing Department, a province-wide desilting campaign will be carried out from May 1 to June 15. Under this initiative, Wasa agencies in 41 districts will simultaneously conduct desilting operations in their respective areas.
The secretary housing has directed all officers concerned to ensure the timely completion of this special campaign, adding that their performance will also be evaluated based on the success of this initiative.
He further instructed that Wasa agencies should maintain close coordination with other relevant departments and carry out the campaign jointly with metropolitan and municipal corporations under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme.
The secretary housing stated that cleaning of drains and sewer channels will enhance the capacity of the sewerage network and significantly improve overall urban sanitation conditions.
He emphasised that the campaign must be completed before the monsoon season to prevent potential drainage issues during heavy rains.
The secretary housing added that this initiative will play a vital role in improving urban cleanliness and environmental conditions to ensure a cleaner and safer environment across the province.
Meanwhile, Wasa Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu Managing Director (MD) has been suspended from his position following poor performance and negligence in addressing public complaints.
Secretary Housing Punjab Noor ul Amin Mengal issued necessary orders, directing the immediate removal of the concerned officer from his responsibilities. According to the spokesperson of the Housing Department, the action was taken due to failure in resolving public issues and unsatisfactory performance.
Sources revealed that Abdul Salam was also holding the additional charge of Wasa Kot Addu MD. However, due to lack of improvement in performance, he has been removed from the post.
The secretary housing has directed the Wasa Punjab DG to submit a detailed report on the matter and take immediate steps to improve the performance of the concerned departments.
According to the spokesperson, a zero-tolerance policy against poor performance is being strictly implemented under the directives of the CM Punjab, and indiscriminate action will continue against negligent officers. He further stated that provision of better facilities to citizens remains the top priority of the government, and no negligence in this regard will be tolerated.
