Rawalpindi : District health authorities on Saturday inspected the basement of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and issued directions to strengthen anti-dengue measures after identifying stagnant water and seepage issues.

District Health Officer (DHO Preventive Services), Rawalpindi Dr Hafiz Jawad Zahid visited the facility along with Additional Medical Superintendent BBH Dr Nadeem, entomologist Adnan Rafi and a team from UC-30.During the visit, the team found water accumulation in the basement due to ground seepage.

Officials said a water pump was operational to remove the stagnant water.

The entomologist briefed the team on ongoing vector control measures.

Biological control through fish stocking was discussed but deemed unfeasible due to the continuous use of the water pump, he said.

Regular larviciding has been carried out to prevent the emergence of larvae, particularly in view of last year’s incidence, officials said.

Dr Hafiz Jawad Zahid directed that fogging be conducted strictly on a need basis under the recommendation and supervision of the entomologist.

He also instructed that larvicidal activities be ensured in every part of the basement.

The visit was part of ongoing dengue surveillance coordinated with the Health & Population Department and relevant district authorities.
