PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Friday agreed to bring Nasir Bagh Road under the jurisdiction of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and decided to enforce a building control and regulatory regime there.

He took the decision while chairing the 14th meeting of the PDA, according to an official handout.

The matter of bringing Nasir Bagh Road under the PDA’s jurisdiction and enforcing a building control and regulatory regime will be placed before the cabinet for final approval.

It was directed that a minimum setback of 20 feet be maintained for buildings along the road. The chief minister also instructed authorities to remove encroachments while minimizing inconvenience to the public.

The meeting deliberated on a wide range of urban development, governance, administrative, and infrastructure-related matters, and approved several key policy and operational decisions.

The authority approved the allocation of additional land and re-planning for the Institute of Management Sciences.

It also approved the discontinuation of proposed recreational projects in Bagh-e-Naran and Shalman Park, along with the refund of deposited security amounts.

In light of public concerns and judicial directives, it was decided to preserve public parks from commercial use to safeguard public interest and maintain environmental balance.

The meeting approved the construction of a dedicated access route from Hayatabad to the FC Teaching Hospital in Shahkas to improve accessibility and service delivery.

Land allocation was approved for the establishment of regional headquarters of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), aimed at strengthening the province’s security architecture.

A one-time relaxation was approved for the restoration of 171 plots previously cancelled due to unauthorized commercial or non-conforming land use, subject to clearance of outstanding dues and rectification of violations.

It was decided that applications for restoration, along with requisite charges, must be submitted by June 30.

The forum also approved the recommendations of the committee for promotions of PDA employees.

The chief minister directed the establishment of a dedicated grievance redressal committee and emphasized that employees may submit their complaints within ten days to ensure transparent and timely resolution.

The chief minister directed that a detailed plan be submitted for formal approval. The briefing noted that the initiative aims to enhance security in sensitive areas and regulate unnecessary traffic flow within the township.

Moreover, the chief minister approved the establishment of an enforcement directorate within the PDA and endorsed standard operating procedures for the registration of property dealers in Hayatabad and Regi Model Town to strengthen regulatory oversight.
