PESHAWAR: Divisional Superintendent Pakistan Railways Peshawar, Imran Hayat, on Friday briefed Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah on proposed reconstruction of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan international railway line, particularly the Kohat, Thall, and Kharlachi sections.
A communication said the chief secretary assured full cooperation from the provincial government in implementing projects of national importance.Referring to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Pakistan Railways, the chief secretary said the agreement would help improve railway services for the public.
He directed authorities to expedite work on the rehabilitation of the Nowshera-Dargai railway section to promote freight transportation of goods, including edible oil and marble.The chief secretary emphasized the importance of restoring the historic Khyber Railway line, noting that a feasibility study is currently underway through a renowned international university.
The divisional superintendent said that Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi was taking a keen interest in promoting freight services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.He added that efforts are being made to mobilize the business community to adopt Pakistan Railways as a preferred mode of transport under the National Transport Policy, which would not only increase revenue but also strengthen the national economy.
